About the competition
The Yano team wanted to encourage parents, grandparents, teachers and carers to develop stories together based on the theme ‘My Most Amazing Adventure Ever’. It’s a wonderful way to connect with your child and ignite their natural enthusiasm for creating wonderful stories of their own.
We decided to divide the competition into three age groups: 4–5 years old, 6–7 years old and 8–9 years old.
Our judging panel
Children’s authors Helen Cooper of Pumpkin Soup fame and Kristina Stephenson, the creator of the Sir Charlie Stinky Socks stories. Clare Steele, a creative writing tutor and judge of the Guardian First Book Prize for six years. Nii Parkes, a poet, writer and curator specialising in children’s workshops, plus Melanie Goose, editor of Yano.
The winner of each age group in the Yano Creative Writing Competition 2012 will win:
£100 worth of book vouchers from Blackwell Booksellers
A bundle of books, courtesy of Parragon Books, some signed by the authors
The overall winner will receive
